Graham, Bipartisan Senate Group Reach Deal With Trump Administration on Russia Sanctions Bill

Four U.S. senators say they have agreed with the Trump administration to advance legislation targeting buyers of Russian oil and natural gas.

Based on a release from U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., joined Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Roger Wicker, R-Miss., in announcing an agreement with the Trump administration to move forward updated Russia sanctions legislation, according to the senators.

“We are proud to announce that we have reached an agreement with the Trump Administration to move our updated Russia sanctions legislation forward,” the senators said in a joint statement. “We are very pleased with this significant progress and expect to roll out the legislation very soon.”

The senators said the legislation is intended to create tools to penalize purchasers of Russian oil and natural gas.

“As Russia intensifies its slaughter of civilians, it is imperative that the legislative and executive branches work together to create tools to exact a heavy price on those who buy Russian oil and natural gas, fueling the Putin war machine,” the senators said.

The senators did not release further details of the legislation in the statement.
