No one was hit when a Greenville police officer fired a weapon during an encounter with an armed man outside a nightclub early Sunday, according to SLED.

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Sunday, July 19, 2026, in Greenville County, according to SLED.
Two Greenville Police Department officers were working extra duty as security overnight at the Acuarius Nightclub on North Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville, according to SLED. The officers responded to a disturbance in the parking lot outside the club and encountered an armed man, according to SLED.
During the encounter, one officer discharged a service weapon, according to SLED. No one was shot, and the armed man was taken into police custody, according to SLED.
SLED was requested to investigate by the Greenville Police Department, according to SLED. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time, according to SLED.
SLED said its agents will interview all potential witnesses, collect relevant evidence and forensically test it as needed. Findings will be summarized in a case file submitted to prosecutors, according to SLED.
The incident is the 21st officer-involved shooting in South Carolina in 2026 and the first for the Greenville Police Department this year, according to SLED. An incident on April 13, 2026, initially investigated as an officer-involved shooting, was later determined not to be one, according to SLED.
In 2025, there were 45 officer-involved shootings statewide, including one involving the Greenville Police Department, according to SLED.
