U.S. Rep. William Timmons, R-S.C., and U.S. Rep. Sam Liccardo, D-Calif., introduced the Ounce of Prevention Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at helping states, cities, and local governments prepare for disasters before they occur, according to the office of Rep. Timmons.

The bill would allow local governments to use Community Development Block Grant funds for pre-disaster risk mitigation, according to Timmons’ office. Current restrictions tie the funding solely to post-disaster use, according to the office.
