A correctional officer at the Bamberg County Detention Center faces a third-degree assault and battery charge following an investigation requested by local police.

BAMBERG, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged Leroy James Strother Jr., 60, with Assault and Battery – 3rd Degree on Monday, according to SLED.
The Bamberg Police Department requested the SLED investigation, according to SLED.
Strother Jr. was booked into the Bamberg County Detention Center, according to SLED.
The case will be prosecuted by the 2nd Circuit Solicitor’s Office, according to SLED.
