The Republican senator praised the fair’s traditions and scholarship contributions in a statement released Thursday.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., issued a statement Thursday celebrating the opening day of the South Carolina State Fair, according to his office.
Scott said the fair reflects the state’s agricultural heritage, local arts, food and hospitality.
“The South Carolina State Fair celebrates so much of what makes South Carolina special, from our rich agricultural history and local arts to delicious food and southern hospitality. Nobody does it better than South Carolina,” Scott said.
He also highlighted the fair’s role in funding education, noting it has provided nearly $6.5 million in scholarships to South Carolina students since 1997, according to the release.
“I could not be prouder of the fair for creating memories for generations of South Carolinians but also for the opportunities it has provided by blessing students across our state with nearly $6.5 million in scholarships since 1997,” Scott said. “I hope folks take some time to enjoy this beloved tradition and celebrate what makes the Palmetto State so great: our community, and yes, our food too.”
