SLED Investigates York County Deputy-Involved Shooting of Fugitive Suspect

A man was shot by York County deputies after a car chase ended with him pointing a gun at officers, according to the S.C. Law Enforcement Division.

CLOVER, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating a shooting involving York County Sheriff’s Office deputies that happened Wednesday, according to SLED.

Deputies were called to a home on Lilly Drive in Clover for a service call, SLED said. When they arrived, a man fled in a car, leading deputies on a chase that ended when his vehicle left the road and stopped in a yard on Lloyd White Road, according to SLED.

The man pointed a gun at deputies, who then shot him, SLED said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and afterward released into the custody of the Gaston County Police Department on a fugitive warrant tied to charges from the York County Sheriff’s Office and the Clover Police Department, according to SLED.

The York County Sheriff’s Office asked SLED to investigate the shooting, the agency said. SLED said it is not releasing further details while the investigation is ongoing.

According to SLED, its agents will interview all potential witnesses and collect and forensically test relevant evidence. The agency said its findings will be compiled into a case file report submitted to prosecutors.

SLED said the shooting is the 33rd officer-involved shooting in South Carolina in 2026 and the second this year involving the York County Sheriff’s Office. The agency reported 45 officer-involved shootings statewide in 2025, with none involving the York County Sheriff’s Office that year.
