U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn congratulated Darline Graham Nordone on becoming the first woman and first HBCU graduate to represent South Carolina in the U.S. Senate.

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Rep. James E. Clyburn, D-S.C., released a statement Tuesday marking the swearing-in of U.S. Senator Darline Graham Nordone of South Carolina, according to Clyburn’s office.
“Congratulations to Senator Darline Graham Nordone on this historic achievement. Her appointment marks a significant milestone for our state,” Clyburn said.
Graham Nordone, a 2009 graduate of South Carolina State University, becomes the first woman and the first graduate of a historically Black college or university to represent South Carolina in the U.S. Senate, according to Clyburn’s office.
“This is a testament to the progress our nation continues to make in expanding opportunities for women to serve at the highest levels of public office,” Clyburn said.
“I feel certain her historic accomplishment will inspire generations of South Carolinians to believe that no barrier is beyond reach and wish her Godspeed,” Clyburn said.
