The steel fabrication company will build a new naval defense parts facility in Florence, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — SteelFab, Inc. is expanding its operations in Florence County with a $38.92 million investment expected to create 108 new jobs, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce.
The company’s new facility, located at 500 Freedom Blvd. in Florence, will produce fabricated steel parts for U.S. naval defense purposes, according to Commerce. Operations are expected to be online in September 2027.
Founded in 1955, SteelFab opened its first South Carolina fabrication plant in 1988, according to Commerce. The company has 35 locations across the United States, including office and manufacturing facilities in Charleston, Florence and Rock Hill.
“This investment represents SteelFab, Inc.’s largest capital expansion at its Florence facility since opening in 1988,” SteelFab COO Rob Rutherford said, according to Commerce. “For nearly four decades, we have been proud to call Florence home — a community that has supported our growth and success every step of the way. This $38.92 million investment, which includes new construction and facility enhancements, will create 108 new jobs while strengthening America’s defense industrial base and reinforcing the critical supply chain that supports our nation’s security.”
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project, according to Commerce. The council also awarded a $300,000 Set-Aside grant to Florence County to assist with the costs of site preparation and building construction.
