The South Carolina Department of Agriculture is encouraging residents to visit local farmers markets during National Farmers Market Week, Aug. 2-8.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Agriculture is highlighting the state’s farmers markets during National Farmers Market Week, which runs Aug. 2-8, 2026, according to the department.
“When farmers sell at farmers markets, they can sell directly to the consumer, earning more money from what they grow. In other words, farmers markets are an important part of our agricultural economy,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers, according to the department. “With so many delicious foods in season right now in our state, this is a great week to seek out a farmers market and talk face-to-face with a farmer.”
Many markets provide affordable fresh food through programs such as the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program and SC Healthy Bucks, according to the department.
The South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s website features an interactive map listing 135 community-based farmers markets, nearly 150 Certified Roadside Markets, and three State Farmers Markets located in West Columbia, Greenville and Florence, according to the department.
The South Carolina Association of Farmers Markets also maintains an online directory of farmers markets, the department said. Information about seasonal produce is available at certifiedsc.com, according to the department.
