The S.C. State Library's Center for the Book has installed a repurposed Library of Congress card catalog as an information kiosk highlighting the library's national programs.

The South Carolina State Library’s Center for the Book has received one of 56 card catalogs brought out of retirement by the Library of Congress and distributed through its Center for the Book affiliate network, according to the S.C. State Library.
The card catalog has been transformed into a Library of Congress information kiosk to remind patrons, especially during National Library Week, that the Library of Congress is a library for all, according to the S.C. State Library. The kiosk is located at the South Carolina State Library.
Every card catalog kiosk features signage explaining that the catalog was once in active use at the Library of Congress, along with its history and original purpose, according to the S.C. State Library. The front of each of the 15 drawers displays the name of a Library of Congress service or program. Inside each drawer is a card describing the featured initiative and a QR code linking to more information on the Library of Congress website.
The 15 services and programs highlighted include the Affiliate Centers for the Book, the American Folklife Center, Ask a Librarian, the By The People Transcription Program, Digital Collections, Exhibitions, Free to Use and Reuse Sets, the Law Library of Congress, Library of Congress Blogs, the Literacy Awards, the National Book Festival, the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, Teaching with Primary Sources, the U.S. Copyright Office, and the Veterans History Project, according to the S.C. State Library.
