The South Carolina State Library has selected 13 state publications, reports and websites for its 2025 Notable State Documents Awards, honoring topics from dementia care to hurricane preparedness.

The South Carolina State Library announced the winners of its 2025 Notable State Documents Awards, according to the South Carolina State Library. The program, which began in 1991, recognizes exemplary state publications, websites, videos and apps.
Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony Wednesday, March 11, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a reception to follow, according to the library. The event is held annually around March 16 in honor of National Freedom of Information Day and the birthday of President James Madison.
Nominations were submitted in 2025 and judged by a panel of librarians and state employees based on design, writing style and breadth of information, according to the library.
Monograph winners included a dementia toolkit from the South Carolina Department on Aging, a pregnancy guide from the South Carolina Department of Public Health, a viewbook from the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics, the 2025 South Carolina State Water Plan from the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services, and a brochure on the state’s new hands-free driving law from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
Serial winners included the South Carolina Hurricane Guide from the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, the annual report of the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority, the South Carolina Year in Review 2024 climate report from the Department of Natural Resources’ State Climatology Office, and the annual report of the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee.
Website winners included the redesigned site of the South Carolina African American Heritage Commission, a StoryMap on Tropical Storm Debby and Hurricane Helene from the State Climatology Office, and a botanical history StoryMap from the Department of Natural Resources’ Heritage Trust Program with Koelker & Associates, LLC.
“South Carolina state documents provide a wealth of information, statistics, and share a broad range of knowledge about our state,” South Carolina State Library Director Leesa Aiken said. “I am pleased that we are able to publicly recognize these important publications and websites as notable documents, and it is my hope that all South Carolina state agencies continue to produce high-quality documents such as these.”
