SLED charged a former Darlington County deputy sheriff with misconduct in office and three counts of embezzling public funds after a probe requested by the sheriff’s office.
DARLINGTON, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division on Monday charged a former Darlington County deputy sheriff with misconduct in office and three counts of embezzlement of public funds valued at less than $10,000, according to SLED.
William Kenneth Sumner, 63, faces the charges stemming from an investigation SLED conducted at the request of the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, according to SLED.
Sumner was booked into the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center in Darlington County, according to SLED.
Additional details of the allegations are contained in arrest warrants, according to SLED.
The 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute the case, according to SLED.
