The South Carolina Department of Education is asking for public input on a bid to join a federal program that allows waivers of certain education requirements.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Education is seeking public comment on its application to the U.S. Department of Education for participation in the Educational Flexibility Program, according to the South Carolina Department of Education.
The program, known as Ed-Flex, is authorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act. It allows eligible state educational agencies to approve certain waivers of federal education requirements for local educational agencies, schools and educational service agencies, according to the South Carolina Department of Education.
The department said the program maintains accountability for student achievement while providing flexibility from some federal rules.
