SLED charged two former Upstate police officers with misconduct in office and assault and battery, according to the agency.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged former Belton Police Chief James Ross Richey, 38, and former Honea Path Police Officer Brantley Keith Creel, 37, with Misconduct in Office on Tuesday, according to SLED.
SLED also charged Richey with two counts of Assault and Battery – Third Degree and charged Creel with Assault and Battery – First Degree, according to the agency. Details of the allegations are contained in warrants attached to the release.
Richey and Creel were booked into the Anderson County Detention Center, according to SLED.
The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, according to SLED.
