The South Carolina State Library's Center for the Book has selected two titles for its 2026 Great Reads from Great Places program.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina State Library’s Center for the Book has chosen “Backcountry Resistance: South Carolina’s Militia and the Fight for American Independence” by Carl P. Borick and “An Army of a Different Kind: The Battle of the Great Savannah, August 25, 1780” by Eric K. Barnes as its 2026 Great Reads from Great Places selections, according to the South Carolina State Library.
Each year the Center for the Book chooses an adult and a youth selection for the program, according to the South Carolina State Library. Books chosen may be written by authors from South Carolina, set in the state, or celebrate its culture and heritage, according to the South Carolina State Library.
The selections will be highlighted at the annual Library of Congress National Book Festival as part of the Roadmap to Reading, alongside choices from the other 55 affiliate Centers for the Book, according to the South Carolina State Library.
