The state Democratic Party says First District candidate Jenny Honeycutt’s stance on the national debt conflicts with her backing of a law projected to add trillions to the federal deficit.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Democratic Party is criticizing First Congressional District candidate Jenny Honeycutt, saying her concern about the national debt contradicts her support for federal legislation known as the One Big Beautiful Bill.
According to the S.C. Democratic Party, Honeycutt, a Charleston County councilmember, named the economy and national debt as a top issue facing voters in a Charleston City Paper article. The party says Honeycutt has publicly supported and defended the One Big Beautiful Bill, which it says is projected to add more than $4 trillion to federal deficits over the next decade.
The party cited an analysis of the law’s health care provisions estimating that about 120,000 more South Carolinians will be uninsured by 2034.
“Jenny Honeycutt can’t claim the national debt is her top concern while supporting legislation that adds trillions of dollars to the deficit,” said S.C. Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain, according to the party. “South Carolina families deserve to know what her agenda would actually mean for them: more debt and thousands more people without health insurance.”
The S.C. Democratic Party said Honeycutt’s support for the law puts her behind legislation that increases deficits while making it harder for South Carolina families to access health coverage.
