The metal building manufacturer plans a $15.15 million facility in Liberty that is expected to create about 20 jobs by spring 2027.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Tyson Steel Building Products has chosen Pickens County for its first South Carolina operation, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce.
The company plans to invest $15.15 million and create approximately 20 new jobs at a 96,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at 180 Ann Drive in Liberty, the department said. The plant will produce components for the company’s pre-engineered metal buildings and is expected to begin operations by spring 2027.
Tyson Steel, founded in 1976 by James L. Tyson, is a family-owned company that designs and installs pre-engineered metal buildings for residential, commercial and agricultural customers, according to Commerce.
Company owners Brad and Jody Tyson said the Liberty facility reflects the company’s long-term commitment to serving customers in the Southeast. “The Palmetto State, and particularly the Upstate, offers an exceptional workforce with close proximity to the Pickens County Career and Technology Center, a strong business climate and strategic access to the markets we serve,” they said in a statement released by Commerce.
Gov. Henry McMaster said the project is “a win for South Carolina and our thriving manufacturing industry.”
Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III said the investment “reflects the capabilities of South Carolina’s skilled workforce.”
Pickens County Council Chairman Alex Saitta said the county is “proud to welcome Tyson Steel and its 50 years of family-owned manufacturing experience to Liberty,” adding that officials “look forward to having them as a part of our community for many years to come.”
According to Commerce, people interested in jobs with Tyson Steel can contact the company’s corporate office in Doerun, Georgia, at 229-776-7588.
