The office said it can assist constituents who cannot get an answer from a federal agency or who believe they have been treated unfairly. Clyburn’s office said it cannot guarantee a favorable outcome but will work to help constituents receive a fair and timely response.

Agencies listed by the office include the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Service, the Department of Labor, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, Federal Student Aid, the Internal Revenue Service, Medicare, the passport office, the Social Security Administration, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Census Bureau.

According to Clyburn’s office, constituents seeking help should use a form on the office’s website that generates a printable page to be signed and mailed to the office, along with pertinent information, claim numbers and copies of related documents or correspondence from the agency involved.

Clyburn’s office said residents seeking help with state, county, local government or public school district issues should visit www.statelocalgov.net/state-sc.cfm, and that those who do not live in the 6th District should visit www.house.gov to find their representative.

The office noted that the Privacy Act of 1974 requires members of Congress or their staff to have written authorization before obtaining information about an individual’s case.
