S.C. DSS Reports Fraud Arrests, New County Director in Recent Announcements

The South Carolina Department of Social Services detailed several recent enforcement actions and a personnel change in a series of posted announcements.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Social Services announced several personnel and enforcement actions in a series of recent news items, according to the agency.

Special agents with the department’s Office of Inspector General arrested a Dorchester County woman on June 5 in connection with fraudulently receiving $76,502 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, according to the department.

Agents also arrested a Sumter County woman on June 1 in connection with fraudulently receiving $21,716 in SNAP benefits, according to the department.

Separately, agents arrested a Kershaw County man on May 29 in connection with knowingly making a false report of abuse or neglect, according to the department.

The department also announced Johana Cadiz as the new Calhoun County director. She began the role on June 17, according to the department.

In addition, the department recognized June as Family Reunification Month, saying the designation acknowledges parents who have worked to safely reunite with their children, according to the department. The agency said reunification involves parents, social workers and advocates.

The department also highlighted its Employee of the Month program for June, which it said recognizes staff who exemplify the agency’s principles of competence, courage and compassion, according to the department.
