State Treasurer Curtis Loftis honored Anya Bryant of Richland Two's Jackson Creek Elementary School through the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — State Treasurer Curtis Loftis has named Anya Bryant of Jackson Creek Elementary School in Richland School District Two as the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program’s Educator of the Month for September, according to the State Treasurer’s Office.
Bryant teaches early childhood education and works to introduce young students to financial literacy concepts, according to the office.
“The time and energy Ms. Bryant invests in her classroom serves as a valuable benefit to her young students,” Loftis said. “Teaching them to put needs ahead of wants is an essential, lifelong lesson, and I deeply appreciate her efforts.”
Bryant is entering her sixth year teaching at the early childhood level, according to the office. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Francis Marion University and a master’s degree in teaching ESOL from the University of South Carolina.
Within Richland Two, Bryant has completed Orton-Gillingham training, helped plan Open Court curriculum, and tutored through Summer SOAR and the Be Great Academy, according to the office.
“Teaching financial literacy helps people practice better money management, avoid common financial hazards, and make long-term goals and plans so they can lay the groundwork for a more successful and self-sufficient future,” Bryant said. “By bringing financial literacy to elementary schools, we can help kids understand basic money concepts at a younger age. This gives them the knowledge and experience they need to manage savings, credit, and other financial matters before they become adults.”
The South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program offers incentives to K-12 teachers who specialize in financial literacy and lead professional development workshops for other educators in their schools and districts, according to the State Treasurer’s Office. Participating teachers receive specialized training and curriculum resources to support financial literacy instruction.
The statewide initiative is sponsored by Future Scholar, South Carolina’s 529 College Savings Plan, in partnership with SC Economics, according to the office. Future Scholar is administered through the State Treasurer’s Office and does not receive taxpayer funding.
